The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is renowned as the largest of all the museums in the western United States. It was opened in 1965 and is situated in Hancock Park, spanning over 20 acres of land, right in the heart of Los Angeles. Since then, it has become a vital part of Southern California’s heritage. The Los Angeles County Museum of Arts displays its collections through exhibitions, research facilities and public programs, which attracts countless number of visitors yearly.
The Museum has a great collection of Asian, Latin American and Japanese art, a few Pre-Columbian masterpieces, works from modern and contemporary artists, and Islamic art. This museum is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am through 5pm, on Fridays between 11am – 8pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am – 7pm. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is usually closed on Wednesdays, Thanksgiving Day and on Christmas. Tickets are available online, anytime during the opening hours. The tickets are sold for $15, adults above 65 and students with their valid ID can obtain admission for $10 while children/teenagers from ages 17 and below enjoy free admission. Members also enjoy free admission and residents from Los Angeles obtain free admission after 3pm on weekdays. Groups can also reserve admissions in advance so they can get special discounted rate tours. Admission usually covers access to the collection galleries and an opportunity to explore temporary exhibitions.
